Description:
Dasd Contracting Inc. was retained by the Parkdale Activity Recreation Centre as a construction manager for this delicate project. The restored Historic Affordable Housing Building will house 29 self contained apartments. Extensive structural work was required, as the existing building was decimated by fire, and 3 of the 4 historic exterior walls were to be salvaged and restored. The support of these exterior walls was crucial to the project, as the interior walls and floor structures had to be completely demolished and replaced. Dasd provided extensive value engineering in the design phase, and was instrumental in devising a scheme to implement a steel skeletal structure to facilitate the restoration of the façade, creating substantial savings for the client. A fourth floor was also added to the building to create more living space.
